The biggest news from the iPad launch is how Apple just changed the way consumer tech companies name products. The new iPad which is the third iteration of the product is simply called iPad, not iPad3, not iPad3 HD. Logically we were all guessing “3”. Now what if they release a new iPad in 6 months, is it iPad 3.5 lol. This is a significant change in the way tech products were historically named. Here’s a guess - the new iPhone 5 will simply be named iPhone.  As a geek, I’ve grown up excited about products who’s specs are in their name.  What I call the “Appleization of tech”’, people simply do not care to talk about full product names. They simply want the next i*ANYTHING.  Other than us geeks -  does the the rest of the world really care to say “I want that new Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch”. No. They would simply say “I want that new Samsung Galaxy”.   This simple product naming change could be  game changer for better or worse, especially when these new products are released EVERY year. (thanks Apple)  I would guess other tech companies will adopt this model..
